It comes from a single vineyard planted in 1997 down in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in Montalcino's warm southern sector — a very different animal from the estate's cooler Canalicchio home base, and the source of its most brooding, powerful Brunello. The 2021 is dark and dense without ever turning clumsy: violet and eucalyptus lift floating over forest berry, new leather and dark spice, with tannins that are tightly woven rather than aggressive and acidity that keeps the whole thing on its feet. This is a wine that rewards patience. Cellar it if you can; if you can't wait, decant it and give it a couple of hours.
