Priorat is one of the great comeback stories in wine, a rugged Catalan region that went from near-forgotten to legendary in a generation, and Clos Figueras was there for the revival. British wine merchant Christopher Cannan founded the estate in 1997 on land that Priorat pioneer Rene Barbier showed him, and it's been certified organic since 2015. This "Serras" is the friendly, fruit-forward member of the family, a Garnacha-led blend rounded out with Carinena, Syrah, and a little Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines grow on the region's famous llicorella slate, which gives even the approachable wines that mineral Priorat backbone. Big-hearted, balanced, and a great way into the region without needing the cellar or the patience.
