A genuine piece of Barolo history: a 1966 from Fratelli Barale, a Barolo family with roots in the village's registry going back to the seventeenth century and bottling under their own name since the 1870s. Barale farms in the eastern heart of Barolo and is famously the largest owner of the Castellero cru, just east of legendary Cannubi. They have always made Nebbiolo the traditional way, native-yeast ferments, long macerations, big old casks, no barrique, and bottling unfiltered. A bottle this old is a fragile, delicate thing; store it upright, decant gently, and drink soon after opening.
