Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva 1971

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva 1971

A piece of Barolo history in the bottle. Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, founded in 1761, is one of the oldest houses in the region and was the official wine at the 1861 dinner celebrating Italy's unification. In the 1920s Cesare Borgogno began holding Barolo Riserva for around twenty years before release, and the estate still keeps a deep library of these traditionally made wines. This 1971 Riserva is Nebbiolo from a great vintage, raised the old way in large Slavonian oak. A bottle this mature is about delicacy and history, not power, so stand it upright, open it gently, and decant off any sediment.
