Markus Prackwieser's family has farmed the Gump Hof for more than two centuries, on steep terraces at the entrance to Alto Adige's Isarco Valley, in the shadow of the Sciliar massif. His Praesulis line — named for the nearby Castle of Presule — comes from the estate's highest, oldest plots. Pinot Noir is a rarity in this otherwise white-wine corner of the Alps; it ripens here only because the slopes are warm enough by day and cool enough by night to draw out a perfumed, alpine-Burgundian style. Silky, fruit-forward, and aromatic — Pinot with the lift of mountain air.
