Julienas sits at the northern edge of the Beaujolais crus, where the soils shift from granite to a complex patchwork of schist and blue stone. Marine Descombe's 2020 is deeper-toned and a little more savory than her Fleurie or Morgon — perfumed raspberry and red currant up front, with hints of black tea, dried herbs, and slightly grippy tannins giving the wine real cut. Five years on, it's hitting a sweet spot: still bright, but with the secondary notes coming into focus. Beaujolais that wants a roast.
