Kid Sister is the playful second label of Trail Marker Wine Co., the Northern California project of Emily Virgil and Drew Huffine. The fruit comes from Mokelumne Glen, the Koth family's quirky Lodi vineyard famous for its plantings of German and Austrian grape varieties along the Mokelumne River. Blaufrankisch is Austria's signature red, and in the Koths' sandy riverbed soils it makes a juicy, lower-alcohol wine with the snap of crushed pepper and dark berries. Translucent violet in the glass, light on its feet, and built for a chill — this is geek-vineyard fruit served with a wink.
