Mont-Redon is one of the grand old names of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but in 1997 the family reached across the river into Lirac, and this white is the happy result. Lirac shares the same sun-baked, stone-strewn terroir as its more famous neighbor, without the famous price. A blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier, hand-picked and partly aged in oak, it's a medium-bodied white with real substance: floral and fleshy up front, fresh and mineral underneath. Southern Rhone white for people who want warmth and texture without losing the thread.
