Turnbull has farmed some of California's most valuable dirt in Oakville since 1979, which is exactly why this bottle is a nice surprise: a Sauvignon Blanc from a house that could easily coast on Cabernet. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, fermented in stainless steel and concrete rather than barrel, then aged on the lees with weekly stirring to build a little texture without burying the fruit. What you get is bright and mineral-edged, with a savory, flinty streak running under the citrus and stone fruit. Serious white wine without a hint of pretension.
