Sky Vineyards Mt. Veeder Zinfandel Estate 2016
A library release from one of Napa's cult mountain producers. Lore Olds planted Sky Vineyards in 1973 on the highest reach of Mt. Veeder ā 2,100 feet up, dry-farmed organically, hand-pressed in a century-old basket press ā and the wines have a small, devoted following for good reason. The 2016 is ten years on now and entering its sweet spot: mountain Zinfandel built more like a structured Old World red than a Napa fruit bomb. Tiny berries off shallow, red volcanic soils give it the concentration, the elevation gives it the acidity, and a decade in bottle has folded everything together. Library stock, not coming back.
