There's no other domaine like Robert Ampeau in Burgundy. There are plenty of old-school vignerons making pitch-perfect wines from top sites, and plenty more who've followed Ampeau's innovations (like cover-cropping for deep roots and water management). But no one — no one! — else makes wine at this level and then…waits. And waits. And waits. And then finally sells it only when the wine is a point — ready to drink. Michel Ampeau (Robert's son) now runs the domaine on this unhurried timeline; quality, not cash flow. This 2000 Meursault is a library release straight from the family cellar — 26 years old, fully formed, no decanting required. The early hints of maturity are there, the terroir signature is bell-clear, and you could age it further if you really wanted to. But why would you? Drinking these on release is just too much fun.
