O Estranxeiro Ribeira Sacra Tinto 2022
O Estranxeiro means "the foreigner" in Galician — a nod to the fact that Eulogio Pomares is technically an outsider in Ribeira Sacra. Pomares made his name running Bodegas Zárate, his family's celebrated RĂas Baixas estate, before launching this project with his wife Rebeca Montero in 2019. Fruit comes from two contrasting sites — slate-and-granite slopes above the Sil in Amandi, and granite-driven Atlantic-cooled vineyards above the Miño in A Cova. Mostly MencĂa, farmed organically (a serious commitment in Galicia's rain), fermented with wild yeasts in chestnut botti and concrete, then aged in old wood. Vivid, terroir-honest, alive.
