Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
Francis Ford Coppola bought the original Niebaum estate — the historic Inglenook property in Rutherford — in 1975, but he wouldn't be able to reclaim the Inglenook name itself until 2011. In the meantime, the estate's Cabernets bore the Niebaum-Coppola label. 1998 was a cooler, more challenging Napa vintage, and rather than release Rubicon that year, the estate bottled its 100% Cabernet under the Cask Cabernet designation — a wink to the great mid-century Inglenook Cask bottlings. A mature Napa Cab from a working filmmaker's most personal project and one of the valley's most storied addresses.
