Steve Matthiasson's love affair with Friulian whites is the engine behind this Napa Valley blend ā a wine that reads as Italian in spirit but Napa in fruit. The 2022 is 46% Semillon, 29% Ribolla Gialla, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Tocai Friulano. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon come from Ryan's Vineyard on alluvial gravel in southern Napa, while the Ribolla and Tocai are from the tiny Bengier Vineyard at the mouth of Dry Creek canyon. Native ferment, malolactic blocked, 10 months on lees in 15% new oak ā patient winemaking for a patient wine. The result has the waxy depth of Semillon, the saline cut of Ribolla, the herbal lift of Sauvignon, and a streak of spice from the Tocai. It ages beautifully.
