California Grenache with the volume turned down and the energy turned up. Martin Pohl works with organic and biodynamic fruit from Rose Ranch in Sonoma Valley, and this bottling is roughly three-quarters Grenache with the balance in Primitivo, which sounds odd until you taste what it does: it drags the acidity up and gives the wine a punchier, zippier shape than California Grenache usually manages. Fermentation is spontaneous, aging happens in old oak, and nothing is fined, filtered, or dosed with added sulfites. The result is juicy and a little unpolished in the best way. Put a chill on it and don't overthink it.
