Anne and Pierre-Andre Deplaude were dairy farmers first. When milk prices collapsed in the early 2000s, they converted part of their land at Tartaras, in the hills between Lyon and the northern Rhone, over to vines, and it turned out they had a serious gift for Syrah. Le Vent se Leve is 100% Syrah and unoaked, from the Collines Rhodaniennes, the IGP that wraps around Cote-Rotie and quietly turns out the same peppery, savory character with far less ceremony.
