La Gravette is the second wine of Vieux Château Certan, the Thienpont-family estate that ranks among Pomerol's small handful of true historic greats. It is drawn from the estate's younger vines (under 25 years old) and shaped to mirror the pedigree of the grand vin in a more open-knit, drink-soon register. The 2017 is 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, raised in 50% new barrels. The vintage gave Gravette a particularly floral, perfumed character — violets, menthol, blueberry preserves — with ripe, rounded tannins and an immediacy that makes it hard not to open. Will evolve for two decades.
