Zweigelt — the cross of Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent — is Austria's most planted red grape, and Mokelumne Glen in Lodi is one of the only places in California growing it. Bob Koth and his family ripped out their Zinfandel decades ago and replanted to over fifty German and Austrian varieties, and Trail Marker's Emily Virgil and Drew Huffine bottle the results under their playful Kid Sister label. This Zweigelt clocks in around 12.6% alcohol with soft tannins, electric acidity, and a juicy, spicy core of red cherry and cracked pepper. Chill it down and pour it freely.
