Kerner is one of California's rarest white grapes — a German cross of Trollinger and Riesling planted at the Koth family's Mokelumne Glen vineyard, a Lodi cult site devoted to German and Austrian varieties. Trail Marker's Emily Virgil and Drew Huffine bottle it under their Kid Sister label, the more playful side of the project. Grown on a dried-out riverbed in the cooler stretch of Lodi, this Kerner shows off the variety's Riesling-like aromatics — citrus zest, white flowers, a brush of orchard fruit — with juicy acidity and a dry, snappy finish.
