Clos des Fourches is a clever, hard-to-find bottling: in some years Mugnier sets aside the youngest vines of his Clos de la Marechale monopole and bottles them under this revived historical name, which the parcel carried until the vineyard was renamed in the late 1800s. Labeled as village Nuits-Saint-Georges, it's the supple, immediate, early-drinking side of the Marechale, pure and lifted, with the silky Mugnier signature. A more approachable, less expensive way into one of Burgundy's great addresses. Drink it young.
