The backbone here is Carignane from hundred-year-old vines in the hills west of Ukiah, the kind of gnarled old planting that usually gets pulled out for something more fashionable. Horse & Plow bought the fruit instead, blended it with Grenache from the historic Block House Vineyard in Yountville, roughly 60/40 in 2023, and made the house red they actually drink. The old Carignane brings structure, spice and savory depth; the Grenache brings the juice. Certified organic fruit, nothing added, no fuss. The blend shifts a little every vintage, which is rather the point.
