Hofgut Falkenstein is the Webers' beloved Saar estate, where Erich and son Johannes farm old Riesling vines close to organic, ferment with ambient yeast in traditional Fuder casks, and bottle straight off the lees with no chaptalization or de-acidification. This Kabinett Alte Reben ("Gisela") comes from ungrafted 80-year-old vines in the long-celebrated Gross Schock portion of the Euchariusberg, classified in the top tier on old taxation maps. Featherweight in alcohol, dense in flavor, with that hallmark Saar tension between juicy fruit, brisk acidity and a touch of natural residual sweetness. A wine to fall in love with, and one of the great values in fine German Riesling.
