Guido Marsella Fiano di Avellino 2021
This is the wine that made Guido Marsella's name. One of the pioneers who revived the high-altitude Summonte zone of Irpinia in Campania, Marsella was the first Fiano producer to hold his wines back, releasing them a year or more after harvest in a mature state, a practice others later followed. His vines sit around 600 meters in the Partenio park on clay-loam soils rich in volcanic material, with low yields the rule. The result is a serious, age-worthy Fiano di Avellino with real depth. The 2021 rewards a little patience and time in the glass.
