This is Gianni Doglia's top Barbera, drawn from a single hillside vineyard in Castagnole delle Lanze. Gianni and his sister Paola farm just 10 hectares in the Asti hills, working sustainably without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Bosco Donne is fermented entirely in stainless steel — no oak — to keep Barbera's bright, juicy soul intact. Expect a deep purple pour, a perfumed nose of rose and dark berry dusted with spice, and a palate that's pure Asti: vivid acidity, a soft mouthfeel, and a long, mineral finish. One of the great house Barberas in the shop, and an absurd value at this level of quality.
