Frenchtown Farms North Yuba Blanc de Noir Apogee 2021
Don't let the name fool you: Apogee is a sparkling Blanc de Noir made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, methode champenoise, from Aaron and Cara Mockrish's Frenchtown Farms in the high North Yuba AVA. The Mockrishes came to Sierra Foothills farming after a bottle of Clos Saron's Black Pearl pulled them off-course, learned at Gideon Beinstock's side, and now tend old, own-rooted, dry-farmed blocks at Renaissance Vineyard. Apogee spends a year in barrel before a second year on its lees under crown cap, undisgorged. The result is barely pink, dry, and savory: garden-fresh, a touch nutty, with delicate dark-fruit detail. A genuinely original bottle of California sparkling.
