Flaneur Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2023
Flâneur is the Willamette Valley project of Marty Doerschlag, who bought the old Carlton grain elevator from neighbor Ken Wright in 2013 and turned it into one of the more thoughtful new addresses in Oregon Chardonnay and Pinot. Winemaker Grant Coulter — formerly of Beaux Frères — has run the cellar since 2016. The estate vineyards (La Belle Promenade in the Chehalem Mountains, Flanerie in Ribbon Ridge) are farmed organically and biodynamically, dry-farmed without irrigation. This valley-wide Chardonnay is the calling card: cool-climate, taut, restrained, more Côte d'Or than California — exactly where Oregon Chardonnay has been heading, and exactly why people are paying attention.
