While white Burgundy prices soar up in the Cote de Beaune, the Cote Chalonnaise quietly overdelivers, and the Danjean family is exhibit A. They work steep limestone slopes around the sleepy village of Jambles, just west of Givry, a corner of southern Burgundy most Chardonnay hunters drive right past. "La Plante" is a south-facing premier cru site, and their white bottling is fermented and raised in barrel and 500-liter demi-muid, with around 20-25% new oak, for roughly nine to ten months, so the fruit and stony energy come through clean. This 2018 comes from a warm, generous vintage, giving it a touch more flesh while Givry's bright limestone keeps it honest. Serious white Burgundy without the Cote d'Or sticker shock.
