White wine from Priorat is a rare bird, since this Catalan region built its fame on brooding reds. Clos Figueras is one of the estates that helped write that story, founded in 1997 by British wine merchant Christopher Cannan on an abandoned vineyard that Priorat pioneer Rene Barbier pointed him toward. The vines dig into the region's signature llicorella slate, and the whole estate has been farmed biodynamically since 2007. This is the fresh, mineral, fruit-driven white in their range, a lively surprise from a place you'd never expect it.
