The highest vineyards in Europe, in a bottle. Cave Mont Blanc is a cooperative of around 70 mountain growers in the Valle d'Aosta, farming Prié Blanc at 900 to 1,200 meters at the foot of Mont Blanc. The altitude is the whole story: phylloxera can't survive up here, so the vines are ungrafted and pergola-trained on stone walls, and the grapes ripen in a window short enough to dodge both spring frost and early snow. The result is a white of pure alpine character - crystalline, lemony, mineral, with a wild-flower lift you only get from extreme elevation. As distinctive as wine gets.
